India Market Still Growing

Lubricant demand in India, the world’s third-largest market, has grown to 3.11 metric tons per year and will continue expanding, a Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. official said during the ICIS Asian Base Oils and Lubricants Conference in Singapore this week.

China Shifts from Lithium Thickeners

China’s grease industry continued shifting away from lithium soap thickeners, according to the latest survey from the United States-based National Lubricating Grease Institute, as producers seek alternatives to a chemical that is increasingly being grabbed for electric vehicles.

Shell Expands Thai Grease Plant

Shell announced last week that it has completed an expansion of its grease manufacturing plant in Bangkok, tripling the facility’s production capacity to a level that can meet half of Thailand’s demand.

Standard Greases & Specialities received shareholder approval recently to increase its stake in Tide Water Oil Co. The provision allowed Mumbai-based Standard, which already owned 34% of Tide Water, to acquire an additional 2%. Tide Water is headquartered in Kolkata.
