Malaysian waste collection and lubricant blending company Pentas Flora said it has upgraded its used oil rerefinery to make API Group II and III oils.
The company began producing Group I solvent neutral 150 in 2022 but has now converted production to Group II and III base oils, according to Gunaprasath Bupalan, Pentas Flora’s head of strategic communications.
The rerefinery in Banting, outside Kuala Lumpur in Selangor state, has capacity to make 36,000 tons per year of base oil. Officials did not provide a breakdown between the API groups.
“We are selling both locally and internationally,” Bupalan said. “Expansion plans are underway as we have purchased a greenfield to house a recovery plant with more capacity and cutting-edge technology, “ he added but did not disclose further details.
Pentas Flora collects up to 50,000 t/yr of used motor oils from nine collection points and said that it aims to expand this to 28 collection points by 2026.
“Rerefined base stock quality will continue to increase as industry shifts to higher viscosity index Group II and Group III,” Pentas Flora’s technical director for base oil and lube products, H. Ernest Henderson said at the ICIS Asian Base Oils and Lubricants Conference in Singapore in June.
Pentas Flora also provides lubricant blending, packaging, logistics and consulting services and produces its own brand of rerefined fuel oil.
