Madrid – Avista Green will undertake an expansion of its used lubricant rerefinery in Kalundborg, Denmark, and aims to increase the facility’s base oil production capacity by 25,000 metric tons by 2027.
The company’s commercial director, Tommi Jarvinen, mentioned the project here today at ACI’s European Base Oils and Lubricants Summit.
Avista Green is a joint venture between German used oil recycler Avista Oil AG and United Kingdom-based Slicker Recycling. The existing plant opened in 2020 and was built on the site of an Avista rerefinery that was destroyed by a 2017 fire.
The facility now has capacity to make 80,000 t/y of API Group I base stocks. When the project is finished that number will increase to 105,000 t/y, according to Jarvinen.
The expansion is being achieved through installation of larger tanks and other new equipment, Jarvinen said.
Avista is one of the world’s largest producers of rerefined base oils, wholly owning rerefineries in Dollbergen, Germany, and in Peachtree, Georgia, United States.
