Kano Laboratories, which manufactures penetrating oils, announced on Monday the acquisition of Synco Chemical Corp. and its line of synthetic food greases and lubricants for industrial applications. Terms were not disclosed.

Based in Bohemia, New York, Synco is nationally known for its Super Lube line of synthetic greases and lubricants. The acquisition includes the Super Lube and Synco brands. Nashville, Tennessee-based Kano, whose brands include the Kroil penetrating oil brand, is owned by Gryphon Investors, a leading middle-market private equity firm.

“Bringing Synco’s Super Lube line of greases and penetrants for industrial and food grade applications into our family of innovative industrial products is an exciting prospect for growth,” Kano President Mark Klein said in a press release.

Natalia Diaz will continue to lead Super Lube in her new role as president, reporting to Mark Klein, president of Kano. Diaz said it was eager to leverage the added commercial resources and channel presence that Kano offers. “Together with Kroil, we can now offer a comprehensive product portfolio to our customers,” she said in a news release.

The Super Lube brand includes synthetic food grade greases, food grade and other types of synthetic oils, food grade synthetic aerosols and non-aerosols, and a variety of specialty products for specific applications or requirements.

“The Super Lube and Synco product lines greatly complement Kano’s market-leading Kroil brand, and the combination allows for a meaningful expansion of Kano’s offerings to better serve the expanding needs of customers,” Craig Nikrant, operating partner on the Gryphon Heritage Fund team, said in the release.

Founded in 1939, Kano Laboratories Inc. produces branded penetrating oils and lubricants for industrial companies and do-it-yourself enthusiasts in the maintenance, repair and overhaul sector. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Kano’s product lines include Kroil and AeroKroil. Kroil’s products include penetrating lubricants and industrial lubricants, including for bearings and mechanisms in precision instruments, such as gauges, meters, clocks and light machinery; and industrial lubricants for high temperature environments.

Gryphon Investors, based in San Francisco, California, is a private equity firm focused on profitably growing and competitively enhancing middle-market companies. It acquired Kano Laboratories in September 2020.
