Motorex USA Inc. acquired Intercontinental Lubricants Corp.’s Spectro Performance Oils business, the company announced this week. The deal gives Motorex the domestic and international operations of Spectro along with a blending and storage facility.

The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed.

Langenthal, Switzerland-based Motorex is a blender of lubricants and metalworking fluids in sectors including motorcycles and heavy-duty equipment. It has production facilities in Switzerland, the U.S., France and Poland.

Spectro is also a manufacturer of motorcycle fluids, including chain lubes, fork oils and suspension fluids.

The acquisition strengthens  Motorex Group’s portfolio with a traditional and well-established U.S. brand, Motorex Group CEO Edi Fischer said in a press release. “Spectro and Motorex are both strong and complementary brands within the powersport market,” Fischer added.

The deal lands Motorex a blending and storage facility at Spector’s Brookfield, Connecticut, headquarters.

“Moreover, the company hub in Brookfield will also support our business activities in other sectors such as industrial fluids or biodegradable hydraulic oil,” Motorex’s Fischer said. “This will also allow us to produce more goods made in the U.S., ensure closer support to our distributors, and improve supply and customer service.”

Alex Josefson, president of Spectro, noted Motorex plans to invest in and upgrade the manufacturing facility in Brookfield.

The acquisition will go through on Feb. 20.
