The largest finished lubricant distributor in the United States grew some more recently when Reladyne purchased Michigan-based Great Lakes Lubricants.

Cincinnati-based Reladyne announced its latest in a long line of acquisitions in an Aug. 31 news release. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Great Lakes is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and supplies lubricants mainly to commercial fleets and manufacturing customers in and around the state.

Reladyne officials said the company is still on an acquisition bent two years after private equity firm Audax sold it to another investment firm, American Industrial Partners.

“The acquisition of Great Lakes Lubricants represents our second acquisition in the state of Michigan this year as we continue to invest in high quality businesses” with sustainable opportunity for long-term growth, Reladyne Chief Strategy & Operating Officer David Schumacher said in the news release.

Reladyne was formed in 2010 and has since acquired three dozen lubricant distributors serving customers across much of the U.S. It claims to be the largest lube distributor in the country and the world’s largest distributor of Chevron lubricants. Earlier this year it expanded outside the U.S. by acquiring Grupo Lucalza, a distributor based in Guatemala.

Besides adding to Reladyne’s stable of customers, Great Lakes President Jonathan Mulder said that becoming part of Reladyne will provide resources for Great Lakes to expand. “We know this acquisition will open new avenues of growth and provide our customers with an expanded range of solutions,” he said.
