Russian drone attacks on Oct. 10-11 completely destroyed the lubricant manufacturing facilities of KSM Protec in Ukraine’s Kyiv region, forcing the company to suspend production, according to a company statement reported by Ukrinform on Oct. 12.
The company said the destruction included its production facilities, technological equipment and infrastructure. KSM Protec supplied lubricants to the Ukrainian domestic market, contributing to local manufacturing.
The attacks also affected the company’s employees, customers and business partners, according to reports. The company has not disclosed the extent of its financial losses, the plant’s production capacity or a timeline for resuming operations. No casualties at the facility were reported in the cited accounts.
The destruction of KSM Protec happened during an escalating period of attacks on energy and industrial infrastructure on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine war. Ukraine has upped drone strikes on Russian oil refineries, pumping stations and fuel infrastructure in an effort to disrupt supplies and reduce Moscow’s oil revenues.
Russia, meanwhile, has continued attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, commercial sites and other infrastructure as winter approaches. The latest Russian strikes have caused power outages around Kyiv. Although both countries are targeting infrastructure, the attacks serve different military objectives, and the destruction of KSM Protec has not been linked to a specific Ukrainian strike.
