Interflon received NSF 538 MOAH-free certification for more than 30 H1 and 3H food-grade lubricants, adding to its NSF 537 PFAS-free certification obtained earlier this year.
The Dutch lubricant manufacturer said the certification provides independent verification that the products meet NSF 538 requirements for mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) — a world first. The certification involves formulation and label review, laboratory MOAH analysis and review of supporting quality-control documentation.
NSF Certification Guideline 538 was introduced in response to growing concern about MOAH and their potential presence in food.
Interflon said the certification could simplify supplier approval and audit processes for food and beverage manufacturers by providing publicly traceable evidence of compliance across the certified products. The company said its NSF 537 and NSF 538 certifications together provide independent verification of its PFAS-free and MOAH-free claims.
“Food-safe lubrication is not about meeting one requirement or achieving one certificate,” said Frédéric Mus, Interflon’s CEO. “It is about continuously raising the level of assurance we can offer our customers.” The company said the certified lubricants use its MicPol technology, which is designed to reduce friction and maintenance requirements.
