Base oil production in Brazil rose to its highest level of the year in July but was still down 9% from the same month of 2025, according to the latest government data. The country’s base oil output has been down from last year in every month this year.
Brazil’s three base oil refineries produced 54,000 metric tons of virgin base oils in July, compared to 59,352 tons in July of 2025, according the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. July’s level topped what had been this year’s largest monthly production figure of 45,863 tons in May.
The country produced 283,273 tons of base oil in the first seven months of the year, down from 339,029 tons during the same period of last year.
Brazil is by far the largest base oil producer in South America.
Base oil imports to the country are down a bit this year and were again in July. Imports totaled 72,231 for the month, down from 75,774 tons in July of 2025. Year to date the country imported 465,830 tons of base oil, down 4% from 484,650 tons in the same period of last year.
