Liqui Moly Opens Shanghai Subsidiary

Liqui Moly will establish its 10th overseas subsidiary this summer with the launch of Liqui Moly Shanghai, the German lubricant manufacturer said, as it strengthens its direct presence in the Chinese market.

The Shanghai-based sales company will begin operations in summer 2026 and serve as the company’s official importer in China. Liqui Moly said the move supports its international expansion strategy and is intended to drive growth in what it considers a high-potential market, where it has maintained its own representation for the past 18 years.

“An important component in our strategy to leverage further growth potential through internationalization,” Managing Director Salvatore Coniglio said. The new subsidiary will be led by Fabian Wedekind, who has worked for the company in China since 2018 and most recently served as Export Area Manager. Coniglio said Wedekind’s experience and knowledge of the local market made him well suited to lead the business. Liqui Moly Shanghai will launch with a team of seven employees and plans to add staff as it grows.

Wedekind said operating through a local subsidiary will enable the company to expand its dealer network, deepen relationships with workshop chains and distributors and respond more quickly to changing market conditions. Liqui Moly also plans to centralize marketing, product portfolio management and market segment decisions in Shanghai. He said China’s rapid adoption of electric vehicles creates opportunities beyond engine lubricants, highlighting the company’s range of service sprays, air-conditioning cleaners, coolants, additives and vehicle care products.

Founded in 1957, Liqui Moly manufactures its motor oils and additives in Germany and sells about 4,000 automotive chemical products, including lubricants, greases, sprays, adhesives and sealants, in around 150 countries. The company said the new subsidiary will provide greater operational autonomy in China, allowing faster product launches and closer alignment with local market requirements.
