Fuchs Revs Up Plant-based Bike Oil
Fuchs Silkolene has launched Pro 4 Ø 5W-40, a motorcycle engine oil made from plant-based, renewable base oils. The company says it is the first product of its kind aimed at the mass market with a claimed zero carbon footprint. The oil is designed to match the performance of conventional fully synthetic oils, including strong wear protection, clutch performance and power transfer. It meets API SP/SQ and JASO MA2 specifications, meaning it is suitable for modern motorcycle engines. The product is part of Fuchs’ broader push to cut environmental impact. The company has already shifted to alternative packaging such as cardboard containers and pouches, and improved manufacturing efficiency at its UK plant. Pro 4 Ø is made using renewable base oils rather than recycled materials and is classified as non-hazardous. Fuchs says the aim was to offer a more sustainable option without sacrificing performance, though its real impact will depend on market adoption.
