DuPont to Build New China Production Facility

DuPont held a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 18 for a new specialty lubricants production facility in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, aiming to boost supplies of advanced materials for China’s transportation, industrial, energy and electronics sectors. The plant, slated to start operating in early 2027, is positioned to support rising regional demand and strengthen the company’s footprint in the Asia-Pacific market.

The project comes as global manufacturers expand capacity in China to serve fast-growing end markets and shorten supply chains. Specialty lubricants, used to enhance performance and durability in precision components, have seen increasing adoption amid rapid industrial automation and electrification trends in the region.

The Zhangjiagang facility – located in the Yangtze River International Chemical Industrial Park within the local Free Trade Zone –is expected to become DuPont’s largest lubricants production hub in Asia-Pacific. The site will focus on producing Molykote-brand specialty lubricants, a portfolio DuPont acquired through its merger with Dow, and will incorporate advanced manufacturing and quality-control systems to scale output.

“This manufacturing investment reflects our confidence in the long-term potential of customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Yi Zhang, global vice president and regional president for DuPont Asia Pacific.

The new plant will enhance supply reliability, support localized application development and complement its existing network of manufacturing and technical facilities in China.
