Swedish specialty chemicals company Perstorp and Dutch additive developer BRB, both subsidiaries of Petronas Chemicals Group, have opened a new research laboratory in Shanghai, China. The facility, which opened mid April, strengthens the two companies’ regional innovation capabilities, customer relationships and technical support services.

According to a press release, the new lab will develop synthetic lubricants, thermal management fluids, personal care and coatings, as well as support existing operations in silicones and intermediates.

“With faster response times and reduced time to market, we are equipped to anticipate industry trends and deliver tailored solutions that meet our customers’ needs,” Axel Tuchlenski, head of innovation at PCG Specialty Chemicals, said in the release.

Tuchlenski also pointed out the benefit of increased face-to-face interactions with customers in the Greater China and Asian markets.

The Shanghai facility is the latest addition to PCG’s growing network of application and development centers. Its inauguration brought together customers from various sectors that the lab will serve, reflecting PCG’s commitment to innovation and its leadership in the specialty chemicals industry.
