United States-based lubricant additive company Lubrizol has been successful in meeting China’s GB D1 specification for heavy-duty engines with its CV1150 heavy-duty motor oil additive package.

Recent data estimates that China has 11 million heavy- and medium-duty diesel vehicles on its vast road network. This fleet is steadily growing, driven by infrastructure development, e-commerce logistics and urbanization. These vehicles consume about 1.5 million-2 million metric tons per year of heavy-duty engine oil.

GB D1 is China’s first independently developed diesel engine oil standard. The country’s trucking industry currently mostly uses oils that meet API specs, which are developed primarily for the North American market. A consortium of Chinese original equipment manufacturers and lubricant companies, as well as associations, developed a localized standard, which was published in 2024.

Lubrizol CV1150 has a low-ash formulation designed for China VI emissions requirements.

China VI has two parts – China VI-a, which is equivalent to Euro VI, and China VI-b, which introduces more stringent testing requirements, according to the Dieselnet website.
