Ingevity to Close Crude Tall Oil Fatty Acid Plant

Ingevity announced last week that it will close by mid-2024 its Deridder, Louisiana, processing plant, which produces crude tall oil fatty acid products for metalworking fluids and other applications. The closing is part of a strategy to accelerate a shift by the company’s Performance Chemicals business to use of non-crude tall oil-based fatty acids.

U.S. Base Oil Exports Jumped in August

Base oil exports from the United States surged 52%, while base oil imports into the country dropped by 31% in August, compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The largest share of increased exports went to Mexico.

Catharine T. Golden, CEO of Etna Products Inc. in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, became president of the Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association on Oct. 10, succeeding Ann Ball, regulatory affairs manager for Qualichem Inc. The transition took place during the 2023 ILMA Annual Meeting and 75th anniversary celebration in Palm Desert, California, marking the first time the gavel was passed from one woman to another.
