North America’s Grease Production Rebounds

Lubricating grease production in North America rose 9% in 2021, according to the National Lubricating Grease Institute’s latest annual survey. Production of greases made with aluminum soap, calcium soap and lithium soap were all up from 2020 volumes.

Consortium Seeks Isla Refinery Deal

Refineria di Kursou, the Curacao government agency that owns the Isla Refinery, entered exclusive negotiations with a hefty consortium of companies to finally find an operator for the scarcely used facility. The agency described investments that the consortium proposed both for the restart of the facility and the local community.

U.S. Vehicle Ages Rise

The average age of light vehicles in the United States rose 9% to 12.1 years in 2021, from 11.1 years in 2012, and is projected to bump up to 12.2 years in 2022, according to data in the latest report jointly published by the Auto Care Association and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association.

Valvoline Inc. opened its first company-owned heavy-duty fleet center in Lexington, Kentucky, where the company is headquartered. The company said in a June 16 announcement that it has taken the same service model used for light-duty passenger vehicle customers at its Valvoline Instant Oil Change service centers and adapted those proprietary processes specifically for Class 5-8 vehicles that can weigh more than 30,000 pounds.
