Forestry Forecast to Use More Biolubes

The amount of biolubricants used in the forestry industry should increase in coming years, a new study by Freedonia says, as equipment manufacturers and operators both show interest to bolster their reputations for protecting the environment. The study says global demand for lubes made with renewable materials is mostly limited to a small number of developed nations.

Order: Chemtool to Pay for Cleanup

An Illinois judge on Monday approved an order holding Lubrizol’s Chemtool Inc. responsible for cleaning up the site of its former grease and additive plant in Rockton, Illinois, and for reimbursing state and local governments for costs they incurred in association with the June 2021 fire that destroyed the facility.

Ecuador Program Beats Collection Goal

Ecuador collected 4.1 million gallons of used lubricants in 2021 – a fifth of the amount of lubes it consumes – through a two-year-old program aimed at preventing waste oils from being dumped into the environment. Recoil collected 4.1 million gallons of used lubes in 2021, exceeding its goal of 4 million gallons.

LyondellBasell said it will exit its refining business and is exploring options for disposal of its refinery in Houston, including prospects for selling the facility. The refinery formerly included a base oil plant that produced API Group II and naphthenic base oils, but that unit had previously closed.
