Merger Forms Canada-Mexico Rail Network

Canadian Pacific Railway acquired Kansas City Southern, one of the largest transporters of base oil and lubricants from the United States into Mexico, for $25 billion, the companies announced earlier this week. The deal combines each company’s railways to form the first network that extends from Canada to Mexico.

OSHA Floats Changes to Labeling Rules

United States regulators are proposing changes in hazardous materials labeling billed as aligning with global protocols while also reducing costs for businesses. The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association is not taking it for granted, though, that businesses would benefit and is encouraging member companies to study the proposals and provide feedback to the government.

Machine Tools Firm Buys Fluid Supplier

Machine tool distributor Concept Machine recently acquired St. Louis, Missouri-based B.C. Macdonald & Co., a cutting and measuring tools company that also distributes metalworking fluids and coolants. Terms were not disclosed.

An article in the March 17 issue, “Vertex Earnings Dipped in 2020, Q4,” initially referred incorrectly to an API Group III base oil sales representative agreement between Vertex Energy LLC and Penthol LLC. That agreement has been terminated.

Grease mill company Exakt USA notified customers it is expanding by moving to a new facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The company is the North American distributor for Norderstedt, Germany-based Exakt Advanced Technologies.
