University of California, Merced Professor Ashlie Martini and her tribology lab, along with collaborators at the University of Nevada, Reno, and private company Nanotech, will spend the next three years using experimental and computational methods to understand room-temperature ionic liquid mechanisms. Under the National Science Foundation-supported project, they will look for the best ways to produce ionic liquid lubricants and evaluate their performance and biodegradability.
