Fog Weighs on Base Oil Traffic

Hurricanes justifiably cause much consternation for Gulf Coast base oil refiners and their customers, but fog is a bigger disruptor, settling in more frequently and fouling supply chains for up to weeks at a time.

The president of Petroleos de Venezuela S.A.’s lubricant business was one of several company officials arrested early this month on corruption allegations by a committee appointed to reform the national oil company.

Parkland’s Lubes Sales Rise

Canada-based distributor Parkland Fuel Corp. posted a 122 percent jump in consolidated revenue for its lubricant segment for full year 2019, thanks to acquisitions that helped it break into overseas markets.

Commerce City, Colorado-based Offen Petroleum acquired Bosselman Energy, a lubricants distributor operating in Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas and Iowa. Westlake, Ohio-based specialty chemical distributor Sea-Land Chemical Co. promoted Matthew Mapus to vice president of marketing. Mapus previously served as the company's director of marketing.
