FTC Tells Quaker Chem, Houghton to Divest

The United States Federal Trade Commission announced Tuesday that it will require Quaker Chemical and Houghton International to divest operations related to aluminum and steel rolling oils as a condition of their delayed merger.

Transparency Mandated for Obsolete Tractor Fluids

Starting in January, tractor hydraulic fluids sold in the United States that do not meet current specifications will need to be clearly labeled as obsolete and accompanied by an explanatory warning on their package fronts, following handbook amendments adopted last week by the U.S. National Conference on Weights and Measures.

EPA Fines California Blender

Commerce, California-based U.S. Lubricants Inc. agreed to pay almost $200,000 in civil penalties under a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for violations of the Clean Water Act at one of its California storage facilities.

A project team with industrial manufacturing company Ingersoll Rand of Bloomington, Minnesota, received $150,000 in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Commercialization Fund to support its project for commercialization of ionic liquid lubricant additives designed to enhance efficiency and durability of heating, ventilation and air conditioning compressors. Teams must receive a 50 percent match of non-federal funds from private partners to receive a TCF award.
