DCHA and the Trade War

An industry association said this month that U.S. tariffs on China were constraining availability of DCHA, a corrosion inhibitor used in metalworking fluids. Industry sources say supply is actually easing, though tariffs could still have an impact.

303 Tractor Fluids Fail to Make the Grade

The Petroleum Quality Institute of America said in a report that 91 percent of the J303 tractor hydraulic fluids included in a recent test failed to meet viscosity requirements for the current J20C specification or the J20A specification, which has been obsolete since 1989.

Latin, South America Transition to Better Lubes

The Latin and South American regions are expected to experience slow, gradual growth in demand for multigrade and lighter engine oils in the coming years, stimulating imports of API Group II and III base oils, an industry analyst told a conference last week.

HSB Solomon Associates LLC Manager Jamie Brunk will retire effective Sept. 4, succeeded by Tim Langlais, who has served as a global base oil marketing executive with both Ergon and Phillips66. Brunk has managed the base oil and wax segment of the consultancy since 2004. Jackson, Mississippi-based Ergon named Kris Patrick as its chief operating officer. Patrick previously served as president of Ergon Refining, a role which has been taken over by Lance Puckett.
