Castrol to Open Technology Center in China

Castrol is developing a dedicated lubricant technology center in Shanghai, China, scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2010, initially employing up to 20 Chinese and international scientists and engineers.

The center will develop lubricant technology for theautomotive industry, as well as Castrols offshore, aviation,marine and industrial business units. Castrol said the center will also support Chinese businesses that operate overseas.

Located in Jinqiao Science Park, the technology center will feature state of the art analytical and lubricant development laboratory areas, a training facility and high-tech conference center. Castrol recently launched a tote tank offer at Guangzhou, China.

This investment reinforces Castrols commitment to its Chinese customers and consumers and is a key part of our strategic plan to expand our businesss in China, said Mike Johnson, who leads Castrol business globally. Shanghai was chosen because it is easily accessible for our customers and partners, and we believe we can recruit talented scientists and engineers locally.

Castrol noted that the technology centers team will work collaboratively with vehicle manufacturers, distributors and other partners, focusing on lubricant technology support, development and training.
