BASF recently announced price increases for ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate, and Dow has raised prices for oxygenated solvents.
On Friday, BASF announced it will raise its sales prices immediately or as contracts allow for ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonateby 120 (U.S. $170) per metric ton in Europe, the North American Free Trade Agreement region and Asia. The company said it adjusted prices because of continued increases in raw materials and energy costs.
The two forms of carbonate are chemical intermediates used in a variety of applications in the lubricants, foundry, polyurethane, and coatings industries. BASFs plant at its Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, Germany manufactures the carbonate.
Midland, Mich.-based Dow on Oct. 16 said it would raise list and off-list prices by 3 to 6 cents per pound on a number of its oxygenated solvents in North America effective Nov. 1, or as contracts allow. The company imposed similar increases Oct. 1.
