Uniqema on Monday announced the start-up of new production lines of specialty surfactants at its factory in New Castle, Del. The lines are part of a broader project to improve manufacturing efficiency as well as to expand capacity.

The new capabilities at this facility will be evident in both qualitative and quantitative terms, Vice President of Sales and Marketing Rick Hanson said.

Uniqema did not disclose the cost or size of the project or discuss specifics except to say that it installed advanced batch processing systems and established a supply chain program engineered for just-in-time manufacturing. Among the surfactants produced by the new lines are fatty acid alkanolamides sold to metalworking fluid blenders under the Monamid brand and Perfad friction modifiers used in automotive lubricants.

The New Castle plant is located next to Uniqemas main office for the Americas. Uniqema is headquartered in Gouda, Netherlands, and is part of London-based Imperial Chemical Industries PLC.
