Casa Angsana Petroleum Product, a Malaysian lubricant producer based in Kota Baharu, Kelantan, recently introduced a system of recruiting freelance sales agents to market their motor oil.

With the new system, the company is targeting a turnover of RM 25 million (U.S. $7.6 million) this year for their passenger car motor oil segment. Casa Angsana aims to recruit about 2,000 individuals or retailers as sales agents throughout Malaysia in two years. The company is offering agents 20 percent commission on sales.

We are targeting the middle to lower end of the lubricants market, and these agents will help us expand our markets to become the leader in this sector, Managing Director Nazly Zakaria told Lube Report Asia.

Employing freelance sales agents to market lubricants is not common in Malaysia, some experts said. We have our own in-house sales consultants and dont see the need for [freelance] sales agents, a spokesperson from Liqui Moly Asia Pacific Pte Ltd said. A wholly owned subsidiary of the Kingfisher Automotive Group, Liqui Moly Asia Pacific is the exclusive distributor in the region of Germanys Liqui Moly.A Castrol affiliate in Malaysia concurred. We do not use freelance sales agents, the spokesperson told Lube Report Asia. Our distributors are our partners, we have a strong legal agreement in place with our distributors, and our distributors salesmen are trained.

Nazly maintained that Casa Angsanas system can succeed. We train our agents, certify them and we have a legal contract with them, he said. They can only buy our lubricants from our designated distributors, and this will prevent any illegal trading.

Established in 2009, Casa Angsana, sells automotive and industrial lubricants and specialty oils. The company sells its lubricants to Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines through official brokers.
