Fuchs Ups Output from U.K. Site

The United Kingdom operating unit of Fuchs has increased manufacturing capacity at its Stoke-on-Trent site, investing in filling infrastructure and digital production systems to meet demand across automotive and industrial segments, the company said in a press release. The move reflects market growth and tightening service expectations from original equipment manufacturers and distributors.

The U.K. is Europe’s second-largest lubricant market, consuming more than 600,000 metric tons per year of automotive and industrial lubricants. Growth is being driven by premium synthetic lubricants and industrial demand, despite electric vehicle adoption making inroads on demand for conventional passenger car motor oils.

The expansion includes two newly commissioned filling lines aimed at increasing capacity and reducing lead times, alongside upgraded manufacturing management systems.

The equipment enables quicker transitions between products and container types, reducing changeover times and limiting production downtime, the company said. Switching between products requires lines to be flushed, waste discarded and new labels applied. Flushings can be several 1,000 liters per week and sometimes be reused in non-critical formulations.

Fuchs U.K. CEO Richard Rogers said the capital spending forms part of a broader programme to keep pace with tightening OEM requirements, sustainability benchmarks and customer service standards.

By enhancing throughput and operational flexibility, Fuchs is positioning its U.K. operations to respond more rapidly to shifting packaging formats and evolving lubricant specifications.

One part of the new installation features a filling system tailored to Fuchs’ lubricant pouch packaging format. Marketed as a lower-plastic alternative to conventional rigid bottles, the pouch has gained traction in retail and automotive channels since its introduction last year.
