IMCD Acquires Apus Quimica

Specialty chemicals formulator and distributor IMCD has agreed to acquire all shares of Apus Química SpA, a Chilean distributor of performance chemicals, the company announced on its website.

Chile’s specialty chemicals market, while relatively small in regional terms, has attracted interest from global players due to stable demand in sectors such as plastics, mining, and industrial manufacturing. IMCD’s purchase comes amid continued consolidation in the chemical distribution industry, particularly in Latin America, where local partnerships and logistical infrastructure remain key to scaling operations.

Based in Santiago and established in 2016, Apus Química’s compact team of four supplies Chile’s rubber, plastics, and chemical industries.

IMCD hopes the acquisition will broaden its product offering in Chile and expand its presence in South America.

Headquartered in the Netherlands, IMCD has been growing across the region through a series of acquisitions, aiming to increase its share in high-margin specialty chemicals markets. According to IMCD’s South Latin America Managing Director Alessandro Moraes, Apus Química adds commercial and technical services for plastics customers in Chile.

Apus Química General Manager Juan Francisco Vercellino Zamorano indicated in a press release that the sale reflects a natural progression for the business and offers access to a broader platform for growth. The deal, subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be completed in July.
