Fuchs Launches New Food Lube
Independent lube manufacturer Fuchs has added a new high-performance chain oil to its line of food-grade lubricants. Called Cassida Chain Oil HTE after the brand Fuchs purchased from Shell six years ago, the synthetic oil is designed to excel in the high-temperature environments of drive and transport chains in bakeries travelling ovens and other food and beverage processing equipment. With thermal stability up to 240 degrees Celsius and low evaporation loss, the chain oil is ISO 21469 certified and is registered by NSF (Class H1) for use where there is potential for incidental food contact. New Portable Density Meter
Instrument maker Cannon is introducing what it is calling its most affordable and portable device for measuring density, specific gravity and other physical properties of liquids. The hand-held Densi-H Meter offers quick results and one-button operation as it measures the characteristics of lubricants, fuels, solvents and other industrial chemicals. The device operates on the oscillating tube principal and requires only two AAA batteries for power, the company said. Web: www.cannoninstrument.com
Filter System to Fight Spills
Whitmore, a longtime provider of equipment designed to enhance the safety of moving, storing and dispensing of oils and other lubricants, is looking to do the same thing to filtration equipment with the introduction of Oilsafe filtration units. The units boast color-coded connectors to eliminate hookup errors and redundant spill containment systems to boost safety during filter changes, the company said. Web: www.whitmores.com
Bio Lubes Get Smart
Canadas Smart Earth Corp. is continuing its down-on-the-farm theme with three new lubes made from home-grown soybeans. The three – Eco Grease, Eco Bar & Chain Oil and Eco 2-Stroke Engine Oil – join the Ontario companys flagship product Ecolube, which was launched two years ago. The products, all made with base oil from high oleic soybean oil, were developed in cooperation with a provincial initiative teaming industry, government, academia and farm groups to promote new uses for soy grown in Ontario. All are non-toxic and biodegradable. Web: www.smartearth

Petro-Canada Reboots Hydrex
Petro-Canada Lubricants Hydrex brand has been a stalwart in the hydraulic fluids segment for more than a decade. Now the company, a Suncor subsidiary, says theyve made it even better. The fluids - called Hydrex XV, MV and AW – are made with Group II and III base oils and are designed to improve performance and increase fuel efficiency for a longer useful life over a wide range of temperature and pressure conditions. The company said that field tests show Hydrex outperforms fluids made from monograde base oils in all those areas. Web: www.lubricants.petro-canada.com
Phillips Aces Toxicity Test
Phillips 66 Lubricants has announced that recently completed toxicity test results have shown its Uniguide II saw guide and blade lubricants to be non-toxic by industry standards to both freshwater and saltwater species and thus eligible for use in sawmills in environmentally sensitive areas. The tests were conducted on four species using EC/LC50 OECD methods, Phillips says. Uniguide II provides wear protection, tackiness, enhanced metal-wetting ability and protection against rust and corrosion. Web: www.phillips66lubricants.com
Emery Adds Rust Buster
Sustainable biochemistry leader Emery Oleochemicals of Ohio has a new corrosion inhibitor in its additive lineup. Emerox 1199 is formulated for use in water-based lubes for metalworking, cleaning, hydraulic and cooling applications, offering biodegradability along with rust protection, hard-water stability and low-foaming behavior. New Afton Emulsifier
Afton Chemical aims to tame extreme machining conditions with a new emulsifier additive. Called Polartech EA 700, the additive is engineered to give low-foam performance and minimal separation under even the harshest metalworking stresses. Afton said EA 700 can extend fluid life beyond normal expectations and can be used with either hard or soft water. Web: www.aftonchemical.com
Clariant Gets Nodfrom EPA
A Clariant anti-corrosion additive has won recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency’s greener chemistries program. The recently introduced product, called Hostacor AL, is a phosphorus-free water-dispersible corrosion inhibitor based on renewable feedstocks. The EPA program is the Pollution Prevention Recognition Project and is part of the agency’s New Chemicals Program. Hostacor fights corrosion on steel and aluminum surfaces at low concentrations while adding lubricity to the fluids it is used in, Clariant says, adding that existing steel-working fluids can be upgraded to machine aluminum by adding Hostacor to the formulation. The additive will carry Clariant’s EcoTain label. Web: www.clariant.com
