Classy Car, Classic Oil
What do you buy for the car that has everything, including classic status? Classic motor oil, responds Porsche Cars North America. The automaker transitioned to liquid-cooled engines nearly 15 years ago, yet enthusiasts still prize Porsches with the older air-cooled engines. Now the Atlanta-based importer has launched its own brand for the U.S. market. Porsche Classic motor oil was created at the Porsche Development Center in Germany and engineered expressly for the higher running temperatures and other lubrication demands of these older flat-four and flat-six engines. The zinc-and-phosphorus-fortified oil is available in two weights, SAE 20W-50 for engines up to 2.7 liters, and 10W-60 for 3.0L and larger. Web: www.porsche.com

Tune Up Your Turbine Oil
Evonik Oil Additives is taking its new formulation for wind turbine gear oil on the road, attending wind energy conferences from Shanghai, China, to Las Vegas, Nevada, in order to showcase the formulation to turbine manufacturers and the lubricant blenders that serve them. Key to the formulation is Evoniks fully synthetic, high-viscosity base stock, called Viscobase. These are very low molecular weight polyalkyl methacrylate, or copolymers of PAMA and alpha olefins, which provide shear stability, low-temperature fluidity and solvency. Viscobase combines with readily available additives, Evonik says, making for a superior lubricant for the wind energy industry. Web: www. evonik.com/oil-additives
Packaging Controls Ensure Safety
Haver Filling Systems, a producer of packaging and filling systems, has earned two key certifications that will speed delivery of its products to customers. The certifications come from Underwriters Laboratory, which provided Haver employees with the training and expertise to design and build explosion-proof industrial control panels for its automated liquid-filling equipment. This explosion-proof designation is required when the equipment is bound for potentially hazardous environments, such as refineries, process plants, petrochemical facilities, etc. The company previously had to obtain the control panels from suppliers that had the certification, which added up to four weeks to delivery time. Grind, Hone with Oelheld
Oelheld has designed a new metalworking fluid intended specifically for use in high-speed gear grinding, gear honing and similar work on various kinds of steel, including highly alloyed chrome-nickel-steel. Called DiaGrind 535/5, the long-lived fluid is made with very pure hydrocracked hydrocarbons. It is free of heavy metals and chlorine, has a low misting tendency and a low aromatic content, the company said. It also contains extreme pressure additives (all physiologically safe) and can be used with most filtration systems. Web: www.oelheld.com
Dont Worry, Be Appy
SKF has a new product to take the guesswork out of using the companys automatic lubricators on hard-to-reach friction points, and its as close as your smart phone. The SKF DialSet app, a free download for Apple and Android phones, gives accurate assistance in setting up your automatic lubricators. With the apps guidance, users select the correct lubricant and the right lubrication intervals for the specific piece of equipment involved.
