LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Maureen Hunter started her 2014-2015 term as president of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers at its annual meeting and exhibition here May 18-22.
Hunter is technical service manager for King Industries Inc., of Norwalk, Conn. She succeeds 2013-2014 STLE President Rob Heverly, technical sales representative for Norwalk, Conn.-based Vanderbilt Chemicals LLC. Heverly remains on the STLE board of directors as past president and presidential council chair.
Maureen is a dedicated, long time STLE member, having served as a local section leader with our Connecticut group for the past three years, with the support of King Industries, Heverly told the STLE Presidents Luncheon audience May 20 at Disneys Contemporary Resort. Maureen has worked as our treasurer, secretary, vice president and now president. She was also TLTs second volunteer editor and helped grow the magazine.
During her speech at the luncheon, Hunter quoted from the Robert Frost poem, The Road Not Taken. She noted that she attended her first STLE local section meeting in 1989 and has worked at King Industries for more than 21 years.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference – that is the way I feel about STLE, Hunter said. Little did I know that night of 25 years ago, just how much my first STLE local section meeting had set my lifes course in motion. Being involved with STLE all these years has been a wonderful experience for me. Im really looking forward to a great year ahead.
Hunter encouraged young STLE members new to the society, and regular members who may have taken a more passive role, to become more involved. If you want to enhance your network, take charge of your career, broaden your knowledge, get more involved in STLE, she told the audience. You never know what exciting career opportunities and life experiences will come your way.
Other STLE officers elected to 2014-2015 terms include vice president Martin Webster, of ExxonMobil Research & Engineering, secretary Ali Erdemir, of Argonne National Laboratory and treasurer Michael Anderson, of Falex Corp.
