Raaj Unocal Lubricants will manufacture and market co-branded engine oils exclusively for Hindustan Motors vehicles under an agreement signed in Kolkata, India, earlier this month.

The companies entered into a three-year contract to manufacture three engine oil grades suitable for use in diesel, gasoline and compressed natural gas-run engines in Hindustan Motors vehicles.

According to a statement, the products were jointly developed by the research and development, and quality control departments of both Hindustan Motors and Raaj Unocal after a market survey to understand the requirements and problems of customers.

The automotive domain is too well aware of the complaints about the quality of lubricants and oils, said Uttam Bose, CEO of Hindustan Motors. I am confident that Hindustan Motors tie-up with Raaj Unocal Lubricants Ltd. will address this issue to a large extent.

As part of the project, Raaj Unocal has also developed the 76 mobile lab, a mobile oil-testing kit that will enable installers to determine the timing of an oil change. The test result will also give an insight into the engines functioning to diagnose problems at an early stage. The kit was successfully tested on several Kolkata taxis, the company said.

Raaj Unocal has a 40,000 metric tons per year lubricants production plant on a 10 acre site in the Faridabad Industrial Area. According to its announcement, Raaj Unocal has blended for companies such as ExxonMobil, Servo of Indian Oil Corp. and TotalFina.

Raaj Unocal Lubricants, which says it was the first private player in Indias lubricant industry, was established in 1990 under an agreementwith the Union Oil Co. of California.
