Hainan Handi Set to Expand

Chinas Hainan Handi Sunshine Petrochemical Co. is preparing to build a base oil plant that will increase its capacity from 300,000 metric tons per year to 1.5 million t/y. The new facility would make API Group II+ and III oils.

Sri Lanka Loosens Market

The Sri Lankan government has decided to increase the number of companies licensed to supply lubricants. Industry insiders predict it will increase competition as marketers seek to protect their share of the pie.

Idemitsu Kosan Blends in Vietnam

Japans Idemitsu Kosan Co. announced last week the start-up of a new lubricant plant in Haiphong City, Vietnam. Officials said the 31,000 ton per year facility is meant to take advantage of Vietnams quickly growing market.

IOC Aims at Southeast Asia

Lanka IOC is moving forward with plans to enter lubricant markets in Southeast Asia. A Bahrainian consulting firm said it was retained to help develop a network of distributors in Indonesia and Myanmar.

South Koreas SK Lubricants will supply 280,000 barrels per year of factory-fill engine oil and automatic transmission fluid to U.S. automaker General Motors through 2016. Total Lubricants agreed to supply aftermarket automotive lubes to African sales and service points of Indian automaker Tata Motors. Petronas Lubricants International, of Malaysia, reappointed Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid its agent for digital advertising.
