U.S. Base Oil Output Slipped in November

United States base oil production declined 8% in November, compared to the same month last year.

November’s output totaled 4.3 million barrels, compared to 4.7 million barrels in the same month of 2022. It was the smallest monthly total since 4.2 million barrels in June.

Year-to-date through November, base oil production in the U.S. was down 7% at 49.4 million barrels.

Paraffinic base oil production in the country declined 6% to 3.6 million barrels. Year-to-date, paraffinic production was also down by the same percentage at 41.7 million barrels.

Production of naphthenic base oil production in the U.S. declined 16% to 656,000 barrels in November, compared to 783,000 barrels. The 656,000 was the second-lowest production of such base oil last year, ahead of only 580,000 barrels in February.

Year to date, naphthenic base oil production was up slightly at 7.7 million barrels.
