Job Description

The GROWMARK lubricant manufacturing facility, located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, formulates a variety of lubricant products for distribution to FS member cooperatives and other lubricant distributors. In addition, FS, Archer, and United brands of lubricants are marketed through the facility. The lubricant manufacturing facility is part of the GROWMARK System, a regional agricultural cooperative serving more than 250,000 customers across North America.

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

Ensures the development and control of quality processes and procedures as they apply to lubricant products and divisional operations through analytical methods, analysis, and auditing functions in accordance with industry and GROWMARK standards.

SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHP

Supervises and implements training paths for lab technicians on the operation and interpretation of ASTM lab procedures, and their relevance to the GROWMARK products. Develops personnel proficiencies to facilitate career path advancement as it exists within the QA/QC structure.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Establishes quality processes, quality standards, and oversees the laboratory testing procedures to ensure that all products manufactured are of high quality and are within the determined specification.

Development and implementation of auditing processes for remote divisional locations, strategic production relationships, and repackaging operations.

Coordinates with Technical Director in the development of new products. Providing in house analysis, facilitating outside analysis, and communication with vendors to develop technical data in support of each product development activity.

Directs the used oil analysis program of testing and reporting analysis.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for the oversight of consumable ordering and inventory control of supplies needed for efficient lab operation.

Works with lab equipment vendors in the development and maintenance of lab testing equipment.

Provides technical support to Sales and Marketing in the development of training materials, product capability inquiries, and customer complaints.

Responsible for customer service as it relates to used oil analysis reporting and follow up.

Determines the need for lab staff overtime and coordinates with the Plant Mgr.

Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Normally requires a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or science-based discipline, and 4 years or more of analytically related work experience to demonstrate knowledge of Quality Processes, Quality Control, and interpretation of analytical results. Lubricant industry experience is preferred.

Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Must be willing to travel to remote operations on an annual basis or more frequently when conditions dictate.

Must exhibit team building skills.

Must be capable of making sound and quick decisions.

Demonstrates planning, organization, time management and problem-solving skills.

Requires computer skills in excel and general communication use.

Occasionally requires ability to work after hours or on weekends during peak demand seasons.

Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
