IPAC Adds Tech and Research Center

IPAC has opened a technology and research center in Midlothian, Va., that will boost its abilities to analyze lubricant additive performance and create components through organic synthesis.

International Petroleum Products and Additives Co. Inc. is a lubricant and fuel additive and component manufacturing and sales company based in Dublin, Calif. It has manufacturing capabilities in Illinois, Louisiana, Texas and California.

Weve got a lot of analytical capabilities we didnt have before, so we can focus in on certain things we want to look at, Jeff Crow, IPACs vice president of technology, told Lube Report.

The center supports organic synthesis work, which is the construction of organic molecules via chemical processes. We make our own components, and were continuing to expand that, Crow said. Our primary objective here first and foremost is making all these things, establishing reactions, temperatures, flow rates, that sort of thing.

Samples for customers will also go out of the new research and technical center, he noted.

In addition to synthesis work, this facility will be used to develop new analytical techniques, never before seen in the industry, which offer additional insights in the performance of our additive systems being developed, Crow noted. IPAC will continue to use outside laboratories as independent test facilities to document the performance of our products. Over the past five years, IPAC has focused on developing the most complete datasets available in the industry for the performance of our products. As a smaller player going up against much larger competitors, this is very important for us.
