BASF and Oxea, whose chemical price hikes were reported here last week, have announced additional price increases for chemicals used in lube production.
Oberhausen, Germany-based Oxea on Friday said that effective Sept. 1, or as contracts allow, it would increase prices on a variety of solvents – including butanol, butyl acetate, propanol and propyl acetate – by 30 per metric ton to 80/mt in Europe, and by $100 to $115/mt in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The company noted the increase is in addition to any previously announced mid-quarter price increase.
Due to shortages of propylene, large and sudden cost increases, improved demand and tight alcohol supply, Oxea said it has also implemented 100 percent sales control on the products effective immediately.
Ludwigshafen, Germany-based BASF on Friday said it will raise prices immediately, or as existing contracts permit, in Europe on 2-ethylhexanoic acid by 120 per metric ton.
BASF produces 2-EHA at its Verbund site in Ludwigshafen. It is a chemical intermediate for many industrial applications, including manufacture of lubricants.
The company also announced Friday it would increase sales prices for ethanolamines in Europe by 60/mt for monoethanolamine, by 40/mt for diethanolamine, and by 80/mt for triethanolamine. The ethanolamines are used in manufacturing a variety of products, including lubricants and surfactants. BASF produces them at plants in its Verbund sites in Ludwigshafen, and in Antwerp, Belgium.
