Afton Chemical Corp. on Monday said it chose Multichem Inc. as distributor in Canada for its TecGard metalworking fluid additives, including extreme pressure agents, corrosion inhibitors and emulsifiers.

Ian Macpherson, marketing manager for Afton, told Lube Report that the partnership, which is the first time the two companies have worked together, is a good fit from a growth perspective. We launched that product line about three or four years ago, so therefore its relatively new, Macpherson said. For us its definitely a growth area. Theyre [MultiChem] in a high growth mode themselves, so that kind of fit well with our desire.

He said the manufacturing community is fueling demand for the additives. Thats whether theyre making parts for car manufacture, plane manufacture – any type of manufacturing where metal is involved, Macpherson said. That also includes the steel industry.

Multichems strong reputation was appealing, he said. Definitely they also have the market access already, as theyre already calling on the people they want to sell our materials to, Macpherson added.

These products are a perfect accompaniment to our already strong line of offerings geared towards the metalworking and lubrication industries, said David Saucier, MultiChems business manager, industrial specialties.

Richmond, Va.-based Afton Chemical, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NewMarket Corp., develops and manufactures petroleum additives. MultiChem, an independent Canadian additive distributor to the metalworking fluids industry, has offices in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta, and warehouses located across the country. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atrium Biotechnologies.
