Blowing Clean
Hydrotex is targeting food processors with a new food grade lubricant. Ultra-Kleen HyTemp oil meets NSF H1 classification and can be used for rotary lobe blowers, vacuum boost pumps, rotary claw compressors and high temperature/high speed gearboxes. The company says its product exceeds lubrication requirements for most positive displacement blowers, including Gardner Denver, Aerzen and Kice. The oils oxidation stability allows longer drain intervals and less gear surface deposits. Its high viscosity index offers optimal lubrication at extreme temperatures, says Hydrotex, and reduces energy consumption through improved mechanical efficiency versus lower-V.I. mineral and synthetic oils. Exol Upgrades to Mercedes-Benz
A more advanced additive package allows Exol Lubricants Optima LSG 5W-30 engine oil to be used in Mercedes-Benz diesel cars equipped with diesel particulate filters. With low SAPS additives, the fully synthetic oil meets the MB 229.52 specification, and is backwards compatible with MB 229.51 and 229.31, the company says. According to Exol, the product provides guaranteed performance over extended drain intervals, fuel efficiency savings, engine cleanliness, long-term anti-wear and oxidation stability and exceptional high and low temperature performance. Mystik Boosts Shelf Appeal
Mystik has redesigned the packaging for its JT-6 line of greases in order to aid consumers in choosing the proper product for each application. The new designs are printed on a silver foil label that is applied to corrugated cardboard tubes. New tubes of Hi-Temp and Super Heavy Duty 460 greases have already begun shipping, with the multi-purpose product soon to follow. Other products will roll out in the new dress over the next six months as current inventories decrease. These include industrial, marine, agriculture, heavy duty trucking, construction and automotive greases. Web: www.mystiklubes.com
Track Your Assets
Rehrig Pacifics new RVision logistics technology platform helps businesses in the retail supply chain evaluate and maximize the return on investment in reusable transport packaging. The RFID-based technology provides real-time visibility and traceability for shippers. In a project with PepsiCo, Rehrig Pacific tagged nearly 300,000 assets over more than a million trips in the Southeast U.S. The resulting data helped Pepsi realize that reusable assets are a better financial alternative to one-way, less sustainable packaging. The insightful technology can also be used to increase velocity to market, mitigate risk through faster response time, identify supply-chain bottlenecks, reduce losses, improve utilization and reduce waste. Which Oil? Ask Online
On the way to rolling out its API CK-4 and FA-4 diesel engine oils, Petro-Canada Lubricants has developed a free online tool called Lube 360 to help heavy-duty vehicle operators cut costs and extend equipment life. Business managers in the trucking, off-highway, construction and mining industries can use the product selector to identify the optimum Petro-Canada product for specific trucks and mobile equipment, ensuring they run as efficiently as possible, says the company. The site also helps users select hydraulic and transmission fluids, greases, gear oils and more. It provides sump capacities for many units, as well as manufacturer recommendations for service intervals. Web: www.lube360selector.com
The Pressures On
Valvolines new heavy duty Cobalt Grease boasts a pressure-activated technology that allows the grease to deliver ISO 1000 lubricating fluid and ensure extreme-pressure protection and sufficient film thickness on metal surfaces. The lithium sulfonate complex grease provides inherent corrosion protection in harsh environments, including salt water, the company points out. Additional benefits include pumpability and extended oxidation protection to help promote longer service life. The product is suitable for mining, quarry, construction, trucking, refuse, ready-mix fleets, industrial, agriculture and other demanding applications. Web: www.valvoline.com
Nye Flips the Switch
Nye Lubricants has introduced its next generation low-voltage switch grease, marketed as Rheotemp 763G. The polyurea thickened grease was developed for moving electrical contacts and interfaces with high cycle requirements, such as motor bearings, switchgear and sliding contacts. According to Kevin OHalloran, Nyes technical and business development support manager, the company focused on preventing oxidation, even while operating under demanding conditions such as long-term elevated temperatures. The product is said to withstand temperatures up to 175 C with little or no effect on long-term performance, staving off switch failure. Web: www.nyelubricants.com
Houghton Advances Semi-synth MWF
A water miscible metal removal fluid from Houghton International is the first in the companys new semi-synthetic metalworking fluid platform. Houghton says the platform is based on new technology for machining and grinding that is free of boron, formaldehyde-releasing agents, secondary amines, chlorine, phenols and nitrites. The introductory product, Hocut 440, is formulated for ferrous metals in the automotive and general machining and grinding markets. The company says field testing has also shown the product provides excellent cooling for titanium grinding operations. Web: www.houghtonintl.com
EU Trademark forRust Preventative
Cortecs biobased, biodegradable rust preventative has received registered trademark approval from the European Unions Office of Harmonization. BioCorr is a water based formulation that preserves metals during indoor storage and transport. The company says BioCorr provides multi-metal corrosion protection for up to two years, by combining film-forming additives with vapor phase corrosion inhibitors. Free from chlorinated compounds, chromates, nitrites and volatile organic compounds, the product has been awarded the USDA BioPreferred designation. Web: www.cortecvci.com
Reuse Filter, Reduce Waste
Hubbs latest oil filter comes with an industry first 100,000-mile performance guarantee, according to the company. Available for any light truck or passenger vehicle that uses a spin-on filter, the products filter-in-a-filter design is made with surgical stainless steel weave rather than paper. The company boasts its design improves oil flow by five times while still capturing contaminants, and can be cleaned and reused rather than thrown away. To back the claims of superior filtration, engine health protection, extended oil change intervals and reduced carbon emissions, the device has undergone independent testing by Automotive Testing and Development Services and Southwest Research Institute, as well as extensive field testing with customers. Peek into South Africas Oils
The Institute of Materials, part of the Savant Group, has expanded its annual automotive engine oil market survey to cover South Africa. Available as a subscription, the survey report contains technical data [that] can be used to assess and monitor the quality of engine oils on the market; compare and contrast physical, chemical and performance-associated characteristics of oils within and between geographic regions; and improve decisions about marketing and competitive intelligence, said Tina Dasbach, operations manager of IOM. The survey includes about 650 engine oils from retail markets around the world, that are tested and compiled into a searchable database each year. Web: www.instituteofmaterials.com
Safety for Shop and Planet
BioBlends fire resistant hydraulic oils have earned several distinctions, including Factory Mutual approval, listing in the USDA BioPreferred program and classification as an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant. Made from high oleic vegetable oils, the company says BioFlo HFDU is compatible with most mineral oils and polyolester hydraulic fluids, but not with fluids that contain water. The product, formulated with zinc-free, ashless antiwear additives and 95 percent biobased content, is readily biodegradable. It is available in ISO grades 40, 46 and 68 for any industry using mobile or stationary hydraulic systems that require an FM Approved fluid. Web: www.bioblend.com
