Included with this issue for print-edition subscribers is our completely updated 2013 Nonconventional Base Stocks Guide. Digital-edition subscribers in the United States and Canada are being mailed a copy, too. This guide lists close to 190 of the worlds nonconventional base stock plants, with owners, locations and (where relevant) capacities, points out Michele Persaud, the projects lead editor. Included are makers of silicones, polyisobutene, esters, polyalkylene glycol, phosphate esters, polyalphaolefin and API Group III base stocks.
It probably wont come as a surprise that one of the biggest changes in the world of nonconventional base stocks over the past year is the continued growth of Group III. Capacity has jumped by more than 20,000 barrels per day. The Shell-Qatar Petroleum gas-to-liquids plant doubled its Group III capacity to a total of 22,000 b/d, and others, including S-Oil, SK and Modrica, have seen big capacity boosts.
We thank Pathmaster Marketing Ltd. in Woking, U.K., and other industry sources for providing the data in our base stock guides. And warm thanks go to our base stock guide advertisers, who make these valuable industry resources possible.
The Nonconventional Guide joins our two other global and regional base stock guides: the 2013 Guide to Global Base Oil Refining, listing 160 top mineral base oil refiners; and the 2013 Base Stock Guide for Europe-Middle East-Africa.
