Magnesium Machining Minus Heartburn
To enable improved part machining with less waste, Blaser Swisslube has launched Blasocut magnesium machining fluid. Known as BC37MG, the mineral oil based, chlorine-free cutting fluid is designed to avoid the instability and short fluid life normally associated with machining magnesium, and especially stands up to machining magnesium without separation. Machinists may also use BC37MG for other ferrous and non-ferrous materials such as brass and/or bronze, as it will not form insoluble lead soaps. Web: www.blaser.com
White Oils Direct
Petro-Canada Lubricants now sells its high-purity white mineral oil directly, under the new Puretol brand. These are highly refined, colorless, odorless and tasteless hydrocarbons, well suited to a wide variety of industries and applications that place rigorous demands on quality and safety. For years weve been there, supplying the highest quality white mineral oil through third-party agreements, said Tony Stranges, category manager, Petro-Canada Lubricants. We are now well positioned to meet the needs of the marketplace with a full line of white mineral oils sold directly by Petro-Canada. Phone: (877) 730-2092. Web: www.petro-canada.com
Timken Fills Own Food-safe Grease
Bearing manufacturer Timken Co. last month began filling its Survivor series housed units with its own brand of food-safe grease. This semi-synthetic grease offers protection against hot and cold temperatures, moderate to high speeds, medium loads and incidental food contact. The company said it decided to convert from a commercial brand to its own food-safe grease after testing and comparing both formulas in its laboratory. Although both greases are of high quality, I was pleased to see a couple of areas in our analysis where Timkens food-safe grease outperformed the commercial brand, said Craig R. Etheridge, product manager, housed units. Web: www.timken.com
Metalworking Fluids Explained
Global naphthenic oil leader Nynas has released a new 67-page handbook examining the formulation and use of metalworking fluids. The manual offers an in-depth survey of metalworking applications and examines the role lubricating fluids play in the metalworking process. The guidebook also outlines criteria that companies should consider when selecting a metalworking fluid, and provides examples of typical formulations. Not surprisingly, it also focuses on the advantages of naphthenic oils for metalworking. Download it free from www.nynas.com/ naphthenics/brochures
Acheson Forges On
Acheson formulated its new Deltaforge F-78 forging die lubricant to provide production efficiencies at reduced lubricant costs. Deltaforge F-78 is a high-solids product containing high-purity synthetic graphite for optimal lubricating performance and outstanding forging results. Higher dilution ratios and rapid film formation mean lower consumption and lower costs per forged part. The lubricants fine particle-size graphite provides excellent lubrication and part-release properties with no nozzle plugging. Web: www.achesonindustries.com
Get Calibrated Faster
The Jofra Advanced Temperature Calibrators (ATC series) by Ametek make it possible to calibrate even more sensors at the same time, along with large and odd-size sensors in either a large diameter dryblock or in a liquid bath. The ATC series combines the accuracy of laboratory temperature sources with the speed and portability of field dry-block calibrators. All six of the ATC series calibrators feature a unique dual-zone heating block designed for optimum performance and superior temperature homogeneity throughout the block. Web: www.petrolab.com
Filter Out Impurities
Stauff Corp. has unveiled the RIF300 series of return-line filters, an effective and efficient solution for contamination removal in in-line hydraulic applications. The filters feature in-line assembly and a bypass valve that allows unfiltered oil to bypass the contaminated element once the opening pressure has been reached. They offer a flow rating up to 1,135 liters per minute (300 gallon/min.) for 32 cSt (150 SUS) fluids. The filters have a maximum working pressure of 34.5 bar (500 psi) and a temperature range of -29 degrees C to 107 C (-20 F to 225 F). Web: www.stauffusa.com
