The Double-edged Sword of Industrial Developments
This months edition of the magazine takes automotive and industrial lubrication as its themes. At 57 percent of the global demand for lubricants, according to the 2018-2019 LubesnGreases Lubricants Industry Factbook, we are never far from an article about automotive lubricants. This edition features a snapshot of the African mining industrys lubrication needs. This vital industry has a wide range of equipment and a commensurate list of lubricant products to keep it running in extreme working conditions.
The mining industry doesnt have the best reputation from either an environmental or a human standpoint. Its operations can scar the landscape in search of valuable resources that often exit the country of origin and head toward developed markets.
But these resources are of strategic importance to the future global economy, especially the growing penetration of electric vehicles. Key minerals, such as the cobalt needed for lithium-ion batteries, are found throughout the continent.
The same can be said of the hydrocarbons industry – the double-edged sword of keeping the world turning and incurring grave environmental consequences at the same time. Tipping the balance away from the harm toward the benefits is the challenge of our age.
Speaking of electric vehicles, dont forget that you can still subscribe to our LubesnGreases Perspective on Electric Vehicles. The third quarterly report is hot off the press.
