Shell to Fill Chinese Crankcases

Shell signed a memorandum of understanding to supply lubricants to Geely Motors, the Russian marketer of Chinese cars, the oil major said last week. The five-year supply agreement will be signed by Jan. 1, 2014. The Automotive Oil Change Association recently elected Jim Grant Jr. president, succeeding Patricia Wirth. South Korean refiner Hyundai Oilbank plans to produce 180,000 barrels of Xteer brand engine oil by 2014 to sell at home and abroad, according to a Sept. 4 news release cited by The Korea Times. U.S. Base Oils Dip, Again

Base oil production at U.S. refineries reached 27.8 million barrels in the first six months of this year, slumping 5 percent from the 29.3 million barrels manufactured in first-half 2012.
