Average yearly sales for oil change-plus facilities – places that change oil, but not as their primary business – topped $867,000, down 9.8 percent from 2014, National Oil & Lube News Reported.

Published in NOLNs November issue, the second Oil Change-Plus Operator Survey compiled data from 2,864 facilities in all 50 U.S. states. Examples of such locations include full-service auto care centers, lube and tire stores, tune-up shops, repair shops and muffler shops. The survey parallels NOLNs Fast Lube Operators Survey results from September.

At oil change-plus facilities, the average price for a standard, full service lube oil and filter change – including multi-point check – with five quarts of oil was $39.43, up about 8 percent from last year. That compared to $38.58 for fast lubes.

The average price charged for an additional quart of bulk oil with a standard, full-service lube oil and filter change was $4.63, compared to $4.66 for fast lubes. For such service, the average price charged for an additional quart of bottled oil with standard, full-service lube oil and filter change was $5.94, compared to $5.42 for quick lubes.

The average cost of goods for a standard, full-service lube, oil and filter change was $15.42 at oil change-plus facilities.

NOLN found that customers at oil change-plus facilities chose their product brands 91 percent of the time based on following a technicians recommendation and 8 percent of the time because of brand loyalty, with 1 percent choosing for other reasons.

The full survey results are available to paid NOLN subscribers in their November issues or participants who completed the 2015 survey questionnaire. Visit NOLN.net for more information.
