Polartech Buys Emulsifier Business

Polartech Ltd. announced last week that it has bought Crompton Corp.s Petromix soluble oil base product line to become the leading global supplier of emulsifier packages.

A metalworking additives maker headquartered in Manchester, England, Polartech was already supplying significant amounts of emulsifier packages across Europe and Asia. The Petromix business expands the companys operations in North America.

Officials said the Petromix line is less specialized than Polartechs existing operations but that the company hopes to use its background to grow the newly acquired business.

Weve been more focused on supplying higher-priced, value-added additives for synthetic and semi-synthetic metalworking fluids, Technical Director Robert Stubbs said. We would like to introduce a greater level of technical input to expand the Petromix activities.

Crompton, which is based in Middlebury, Conn., said the sale will allow its Petroleum Additives business to focus on high performance additive components. It also said that Petromix is a more natural fit for Polartech, since it concentrates on additive packages for soluble oil.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
