Fire last week at distributor Tekhnorynok Avtomasels warehouse in Bryansk injured none, but caused possibly several million rubles in damage, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
The incident occurred during working hours on Oct. 21 at the 1,500 square meter lubricants and auto parts warehouse located in a residential neighborhood in Bryansk, which is in western Russia, bordering Belarus and Ukraine.
Around 40 firefighters and 14 firefighting vehicles were on the scene. With special [firefighting] techniques and applying foam we effectively extinguished the flames that engulfed the two-story warehouse, Vadim Uvarkin, head of the ministrys Bryansk Oblast department, said to a media briefing last week. We evacuated all employees, and the operation was over in five hours.
Local authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident. Some suspect it may have been an accident caused by an unqualified welder. I live in the close vicinity and I heard an explosion, Anastasia Kozlova told a local newspaper. Our friends confirmed that six barrels of oil exploded.
Lube Report could not reach Tekhnorynoks head, Evgeny Mirmov, by deadline. According to its website, Tekhnorynok carries Mobil, Shell, BP, Castrol, Total, Valvoline and many more international and domestic brands.
