ExxonMobil broke ground on the expansion of its Clinton, New Jersey research facility, the company announced Friday. The expansion, including a new facility for lubricant research and development, is set to be completed in 2019.

Included in the facility will be a new engine testing center, a lubricant research and development blend plant and enhancements to existing facilities, according to the press release.

This expansion comes as part of the Irving, Texas-based companys plan to consolidate its research activities and laboratories in the area. By 2019 all activities and employees at Exxons Paulsboro research facility will be relocated to the expanded Clinton facility.

The Paulsboro lube oil blend plant, which the company said has 130 employees and is one of the largest in its global network, will continue to operate, a spokesman said.

The real benefit from this expansion is co-locating our New Jersey research facilities under one roof, which will enhance our research capabilities, said Aaron Stryk, media relations adviser at ExxonMobil.
