Dial Oil Co., Farmington, N.M., a gasoline, diesel and lubricant distributor, was acquired this month by Giant Industries, Inc. Dial, a supplier of ConocoPhillips and Castrol lubricants, joins Phoenix Fuel, an ExxonMobil and Chevron lubricant distributor, as wholly-owned Giant subsidiaries. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
In addition to lubricants, Dial owns and operates 12 service station/convenience stores, four bulk petroleum distribution plants, 16 cardlock fueling locations and a fleet of truck transports. Dials annual fuel and lubricant sales volumes total about 100 million gallons. A company spokesman could not specify total lubricant volumes.
Dial Oil is a good fit with our existing operations and provides us an opportunity to grow our wholesale business in the Southwest, said Fred Holliger, Giants chief executive officer, on announcing the acquisition July 12. Dials wholesale fuel and lubricant markets strategically complement our Phoenix Fuel operations. The combination will geographically expand our existing markets and provide us with a platform for additional profitable growth.
Acquired by Giant in 1997, Phoenix, Ariz.-based Phoenix Fuel Co. distributes 21,000 barrels per day of fuel and 350 barrels per day of ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell and Chem-Tech oils, lubricants and chemicals, according to the companys web site.
Giant Industries, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., is a refiner and marketer of petroleum products.
