Idemitsu Lubricants America Corp. plans to expand manufacturing capabilities and add 28 jobs to its Jeffersonville, Ind., facility over the next four years, according to an announcement Feb. 9 by a local economic development agency.

Idemitsus expansion awaits final approval of incentive packages from the state of Indiana and the city of Jeffersonville, said One Southern Indiana, which is the combined chamber of commerce and economic development agency for Clark and Floyd counties. Idemitsu could invest more than $7 million in real estate improvements, more than $13 million in equipment and another $1 million in miscellaneous personal property, the agency noted.

Since October 1992, Idemitsu Lubricants of America has been producing engine oils and automatic and manual transmission fluid for major auto manufacturers at its blending plant on its 30-acre site in Jeffersonville. It also makes finished products for metalworking and maintenance fluids for industrial applications such as coolants, rust preventives, industrial chain oils, turbine oils and greases.

Idemitsu is proud to be a part of the Jeffersonville community for the past 18 years and to have benefited from the high quality workforce and excellent logistics available in this area, Tammi Walts, Idemitsu Lubricants Americas senior vice president of manufacturing and global business operations, stated in One Southern Indianas announcement.

We are excited about the possibility of expanding our blending and warehousing facilities and adding to our associate base in order to meet our growing business needs. The support of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana Economic Development Corporation and One Southern Indiana has been invaluable, Walts said. Their assistance in obtaining tax abatements and incentives for these projects will help ILA to make our expansion plans a reality.

Idemitsu Lubricants America was the first wholly-owned overseas subsidiary of one of Japans largest oil and energy companies, Tokyo-based Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd., which was established in 1911.

In September 2006, the U.S. subsidiary changed its name from Apollo America Corp. to Idemitsu Lubricants America Corp.
