New Zealands antitrust regulator has settled on a resolution to proceedings against a waste oil collection division of EnviroWaste over alleged anti-competitive practices.
Nelson-based Bens Oil and an employee of parent company EnviroWaste agreed on a settlement to resolve the Commerce Commissions recent allegations that in 2012 the former parties tried to cut a deal with an unnamed business rival to reduce competition over the firms existing customers.
Bens Oil rerefines used lubricating oil into light fuel oil in the upper South Island region, where approximately 700,000 liters of waste oil is spent each year, according to the Commission. Bens Oil could not be reached by deadline.
The Auckland High Court will schedule a penalty hearing soon, the Commission said in a Sept. 29 press release, adding that it will not comment further until the proceedings have concluded.
